Homeschooling: A Family’s Journey by Gregory and Martine Millman is a must-read for homeschooling parents.
I’m so glad I picked this book up from Borders, one of few books about homeschooling available in Singapore.
Through their honest and heartfelt stories about their experiences during their homeschooling journey with 6 kids, Gregory and Martine Millman have helped to strengthen my belief in homeschooling as the better option for my kids. Since I have chosen the less traveled path of eclectic/relaxed homeschooling and unit study two months ago, I cannot say that I’ve always been 100% sure of what I’ve been doing. Worries about whether or not my kids are learning and if they are learning enough do creep in. This book reminds me to trust in my kids, in my instincts.
Chapter 9 on accepting a college is a vital and special read. It gives a good look into how US colleges see and screen homeschoolers. It reminds me that before we worry about where and how our kids will go to college, we should know what attending college means for them. Choosing the right college means more than just (or maybe even not about) picking an ivy league school. It’s about finding a good fit – environment, values, philosophy, people – for your child’s further education.
Homeschooling: A Family’s Journey is a book I will surely go back to every now and then.
