Bent Out of Shape and Helping Hands

This week’s sermon from Sermons4Kids is about how people get bent out of shape.  The Bible Scripture reading is about how Jesus healed a crippled woman on a Sabbath (Luke 13:10-14).

For the lesson on how being bent out of shape, whether literally or figuratively, can be very difficult, the kids played a bent-out-of-shape statue dance.  When the music stops, they have to hold a bent-out-of-shape pose.  The kids had so much fun out-stretching and out-bending each other.

I really like the lesson at the end of this week’s sermon. “Jesus was always more concerned with helping people than he was about keeping rules. Rules are good, but people are more important. We should remember that the next time we start to get all bent out of shape when someone bends the rules a little bit to help someone who is in need.” (Sermon of the Week – All Bent Out of Shape)  To remind themselves that they have helping hands like Jesus did, the kids made Helping Hands finger paintings.  Finger painting is always fun and is a great way to end a lesson.
